Modern politics and modern media have in many ways rendered the concept of citizen to that of consumer, to be manipulated and controlled. This in my humble view is leading to a crisis for democracy and the republican idea of citizenship. Outdated and corrupted political ideologies such as socialism, liberalism, and conservatism have pigeonholed citizens in a facile way.

The internet is a free polis in many ways. This page is a small contribution for citizens everywhere to discuss and reflect on contemporary forms of citizenship and democracy in general. All ideologies and none are welcome.

To put my cards on the table….,

I am a 40-ish Irish citizen living in rural South Wicklow. I believe in the power and dignity of the citizen, and their rights and duties. It is my belief  that individual liberty is protected and enhanced by active citizenship. Centralised and increasingly unaccountable power in Politics, Bureaucracy and Media is the danger we all face.
